Shawntel Collins, M.S., LGPC, NCC

Shawntel Headshot The mind and body are interconnected, positively and negatively influencing each other. We should regard of our mental health as we do our physical health, putting forth the same time, energy, and care into our minds as we do our bodies. Let’s work to together to curate the life you desire to achieve personal growth, wellness, and peace.

Shawntel is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in the state of Maryland. Her desire to contribute to the behavioral health field extends back to Towson University where she pursued her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Psychology with a concentration in clinical psychology. She went on to earn her Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. Shawntel, a lifelong learner, regularly participates in professional development and training to bolster her knowledge and expertise, further enabling her to meet the needs of her clients.

Using a holistic lens and a collaborative strength-based therapeutic approach, Shawntel will work with you to gain insight into the presenting problem and to construct goals in
alignment with your values and beliefs. To guide the therapeutic journey,
psychoeducation along with interventions from theoretical models will be utilized to effectively respond to your needs. The two orientations Shawntel primarily integrates within the sessions are Relational-Cultural Therapy (RCT), which analyzes the impact of interpersonal relationships on the presenting problem, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which considers the impact of cognitions and beliefs on behavior. CBT also provides a skill-building framework to learn new techniques to manage symptoms and cope with stressors.

Shawntel areas of counseling interest includes, but are not limited to, martial dynamics, anxiety, depression, stress management, and life transitions. Additionally, her nine years of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides her with valuable insight, compassion, and empathy to the unique needs of the first responders community. She aims to use her knowledge to provide services to frontline workers that respond to their personal and/or occupational stressors, effectively promoting wellness and personal growth across both domains.
